Midlands Showcase Hailed a Great Success!

On Sunday 2 April, marching bands and drum corps from all over the Midlands gathered in Birmingham for Midlands Showcase, an afternoon of fun, friendship and informal performances.

Dynamic Vibe PE

Hosted by Beeches Performance Ensemble, the event returned to the BYBA calendar after an absence of several years, something very much appreciated by Paul Cartwright, BYBA Chairman, in his speech to the audience. The focus was very much on youth and for many members it was their first ever performance. It was a full house as the first band, Dynamic Vibe, entered the theatre and performed an extract from their 2017 show Whole.

Stafford Lancers

They were followed by Warwick Corps of Drums, who performed pieces from their 2017 programme Disney Villains, Ibstock Scouts, and Lanesfield BB/GB Cadets who showcased a selection of tunes from around the world. Leading up to the half time break, Phantom Knight Cadets performed marching tunes while Liberty Drum Corps presented production extracts from their 2017 production The Bench.

After the break, the audience returned to watch Comets Performance Ensemble present two of their favourite pieces as well as extracts from their 2017 show, and Stafford Lancers perform Be Our Guest from their 2017 Beauty and the Beast themed show. They were followed by Stafford Brigades who performed parts of their 2017 production as well as favourites from 2016, and Phantom Knights who played extracts from their 2017 show The Chess Game. The afternoon closed with a performance from the hosts, Beeches Performance Ensemble, playing extracts from their 2017 show The Five Senses.

The whole event provided a fantastic afternoon of entertainment as well as an opportunity for band members to catch up with friends from other bands in the region.

Chair for BYBA Midlands Region, Barbara Leach, said, “The afternoon was entertaining from start to finish. It was particularly pleasing to see so many children and young people performing, many for the very first time. All the bands supported one another, which was great to see. I’d like to thank Andrew Dallison and his team for all the hard work pulling the event together – it was a triumph and we will certainly be back in 2018.”
