Marching Youth Bands in a Summer Showdown

On Sunday the 8th of July at a new venue saw the 2nd competition in the BYBA circuit for 2018. From across the country 14 of the UK’s best Marching Youth Bands travelled to Corby Town Football Club, to perform in at the Summer Rhythm event hosted by Liberty Drum Corps. This was a joint event with our friends TYMBA, In what can only be described Summer Showdown.

Opening the contest class with their show entitled Relationships was the 1st Spalding Girls and 3rd Spalding Boys Brigade – Marching Ambassadors, who swept the board at the BB National Championships early this year. Then in their first competitive competition Lanesfield Boys and Girls Brigade Cadets wowed the audience with their show from the Disney Pixar film Cars. Next up was the distinguished Warwick Corps of Drums performing music from the musical Annie. Last years League winners Christ Church Aston CLCGB was the last band to perform in this class.

The only band to perform in the Premier class was Liberty Drum Corps performing the story of an unknown life form arriving on earth in their show The Day They Came.

Setting the pace in the Championship class the Comets Performance Ensemble took to the field with their show The Heist, followed by Thurrock Marching Brass presenting The Story Teller a tribute to Robin Williams, The Stafford Brigades merged on to the field with a musical performance entitled Once Upon a Time, last up the mood switched to tragedy on the streets of New York as the Phantom Knights presented a West Side Story show.

The TYMBA Championship class saw two outstanding traditional performances from the Syston Scout and Guide Band and the 3rd Davyhulme Scout and Guide Band.

The launch of the UK version of the World Music Contest, a street style march and show parade contest saw magnificent March performances from Thurmaston Marching Brass and Hertfordshire Showband ending with a show parade exhibition.

Returning to the BYBA circuit the final performance of the day brought some of the most distinctive moments as Beeches Performance Ensemble presented their show Bounce – the only band to perform in the Premiership open class.

Before the results all the bands gathered together for a Summer Showdown Jam Session. All the performances today delighted the audience in properly one of the best contest seen in many years. Well done to the organisers of this event
