BYBA Referee Rolee

Historically, the role of the BYBA Referee has been to ensure adherence to the BYBA rules by both competitors and contests, a remote role giving rise to the impression of  an almost unapproachable person, aloof and critical. In the current mindset of encouraging both contests and competitors, it is with some satisfaction that this impression has at last been dismantled, a process that has taken some years.

The role is now more that of an advisor both prior to and on the day of the event, always bearing in mind the rules appropriate to both competitors and contests. The referee will be approachable and be of assistance where necessary to ensure the smooth running of the event. They will voice criticism to the organisers but temper them with any possible solutions to the problems encountered, and be prepared to listen to any queries from competitors, organisers or supporters, ensuring that they are dealt with in the most suitable way possible, whether by giving of advice personally, or reporting to others to action.
