BYBA Guestbook FAQs BYBA Guestbook

Here is a brief explanation of some of the questions you may have about the BYBA On-Line Guestbook.

How does the BYBA On-Line Guestbook operate?

The BYBA On-Line Guestbook is a facility which allows you to leave messages to your friends in the Banding activity.

You can input a new message by clicking the "Add" tag at the top of the Guestbook page which will take you to a form which you can fill in with your details and message.

You can read the messages currently posted just by scrolling down the page. Each page displays a maximum of 20 messages - the most recent appearing first (displayed message number 1 is always the most recent). If you wish to see older messages, scroll to the top of the page and select the appropriate block (e.g. "[21 - 40]") by clicking on it - this will display a further block of up to 20 messages.

When creating a new message, please ensure that you enter your real name in the Name field and your e-mail address in the E-mail field. The Homepage URL and Homepage Title fields are optional and may be used if you have a web page which you would like referenced. Please note that you should input your full URL starting with http://...

Removal of messages

In addition to removing threads which do not meet the Etiquette guidelines (see below), the Guestbook will be reviewed regularly and messages which were posted one or more months previous to the current date may be removed. Should volumes dictate, the one month period may be reviewed and mesages removed sooner.

Guestbook Etiquette

Please remember that the messages in the Guestbook are public; they can be read by anybody and consequently BYBA will take action to remove any messages that it considers offensive or otherwise harmful. Messages in the Guestbook that are anonymous will be candidates for removal.

The Guestbook will be successful if contributors follow these common sense guidelines.

Posting in more than one message area

The BYBA web site now has three interactive areas - the Guestbook, the Discussion Forum, and the Notice Board. It would be appreciated if people refrained from posting the same information in all areas. The Guestbook is intended for congratulatory messages and the like; the Notice Board is intended for "news" items, "For Sale" ads, and "Wanted" ads; while the Discussion Forum is the place to have creative discussion.

Where postings of the same information occurs in more than one area, or an item is posted in the wrong area, the BYBA Web Support Team reserves the right to delete items from inappropriate areas, or to move items to the appropriate area, or to delete the mis-posting and request the originator to re-post it in the agreed area.

Management of the interactive areas should allow people to find the information they require more efficiently and provide better control of those areas.

rule

Can I put html tags anywhere in my posts?

No. You can not use HTML tags in any field except body of the message. The maintainer of the script has the option of allowing or disallowing any HTML in the Message part of your posting. If they disallow it, the script will just throw out everything in <>'s. If they allow it, your html markup will appear in the posting. It can't hurt to try.

BYBA Webmaster comment - this facility is disabled in BYBA's On-Line Guestbook

rule

Why didn't my message show up?

Your message most likely did not show up, because your browser did not reload the page, it simply pulled it out of cache (memory). Use the Refresh or Reload button on your Web Browser's toolbar to retrieve the latest version of the Guestbook page from the server so that you see the latest updates with your message added. Please don't repeatedly submit the same message.

Where can I get the scripts for this program?

The scripts are written in Perl and created by David S Choi. They are free to anyone who wishes to use them and you can get them as well as other scripts at: http://www.dcscripts.com. Enjoy!
