History The first Youth Marching Band Contest in Britain was held at Hornchurch in Essex on 11th September 1943. Since that date the activity has developed greatly, and in 1974 David Loader, Steve Johnson and Glen Carter founded the British Youth Band Association (BYBA). The Association set up rules to standardise the running of contests, judging and scoring. The introduction of national divisions or classes was also introduced. |
