Open Age Units in the BYBA

Following the successful BYBA Think Tank event, first conceived back in February this year, and held on Saturday 29th July in Leicester, it was recommended that the British Youth Band Association facilitate an open age division within its competition circuit.

The recommendation was accepted by all in attendance to run a separate division that would allow a competitive forum for units that hope to retain members who wish to continue marching beyond their age out, therefore exceeding the current number of over age members allowed within current BYBA rules.

The division will be considered an open division in the area of the age restrictions alone and will in all other ways adhere to the rules and principles of the Association.

The meeting asked that a statement of intent be made which would allow the rest of the members of the BYBA to receive the recommendation and allow them to feed back their thoughts and opinions on the subject. Those opinions will be passed to a panel which will be formed to develop the recommendation and implement it for the 2007 season.

Those present at the meeting and the BYBA council welcome the recommendation and agree to work to implement it following a proper investigation and consultation period, and a full proposal and implementation strategy will be put to the 2006 BYBA AGM.

All feed back should be directed to me at chairman@byba.org.uk before the 1st September and we look forward to moving this exciting development forward on behalf of the membership.
